Eleonore’s music video for “Parlour Game” is finished. We had a showing for her and Sharon her manager and there were tears…I think they like it.

The Album cover and booklet that I’ve been working on for the singer/songwriter “Eleanore” arrived this morning in the post. Amazing how different things look in the flesh,  there is something to be said for owning music physically. I might start up a record collection again?

I’ve been illustrating a coaching manual for a charity called The Catalyst Trust. They are making such a difference to local communities by getting involved with young people and mentoring them. Have a look at some of the things they’ve been doing…

St Trinians

Squidpot is definitely mutating, we’re getting more and more straight illustration work and a very welcome development into making paintings and drawings for the film industry. This month I’ve been working on two paintings for the new St.Trinians film http://www.sttriniansmovie.co.uk/, and also a papier mache rabbits head mask. I love my job.

Film work

It’s been a brilliantly varied month with lots of fun projects, particularly for film and TV companies:  A drawing in the style of Rembrandt for the TV programme “Midsomer Murders” and two abstract paintings for Arthousehire  which are to be hired out to the film industry. I’m looking forward to spotting them. I’ve already had [...]

Get Real

Sep

2008

After a visit to What?if! last week, one of their principles has been rattling around my brain and that’s the idea of ‘realness’. It’s the notion that once an idea is physically out in the world, whether that is in the form of a drawing or a lego model or knitting or whatever, then that [...]

New work for September

One of the projects we have been working on is a leaflet encouraging parents to read with their kids. The drawings have definitely inspired the children. I hope they make the idea seem more fun to the parents too and that they feel inspired to spend some time together. It’s just plain good to spend one-on-one time, [...]

Everyone can learn to draw

Aug

2008

I feel passionate about getting people drawing, it is the most delightful experience and goes deep to the root of our souls. Many people feel that it is a gift, that it comes naturally (a myth that is perpetuated by artists I’m sure) and I absolutely refute that. We are all capable and all we [...]

Return to the hand-made

Aug

2008

Has anyone else noticed that drawing is suddenly being used everywhere? I’ve been watching the movement gathering momentum with great excitement as advertising goes artisan. I think some of the most creative work ever is being done right now. The “connecting people” map in the Nokia advert, the retro etch-a-sketch mini and the VW [...]

New work

We’ve been working on the email newsletter to introduce ourselves to more people. I really enjoyed doing the elvis look-a-like drawing, balloon animals make me chuckle. We’re also doing some drawings for a book on twins, the drawings are helping to bring some of the great stories to life. I’m confident that they will help [...]
